Statistics Canada: Defining Canada’s Downtown Neighbourhoods, 2016 Boundaries

Statistics Canada have released an article in The Daily titled Defining Canada’s Downtown Neighbourhoods: 2016 Boundaries which presents their boundaries of downtowns, based on the 2016 Standard Geographical Classification, and describes the methodology used to create them. The boundaries will be revised in 2021, when the Dissemination Areas from the 2021 SGC are finalized. This revised version of the geography will be the one used in the 2021 Census analytical products.

Statistics Canada: New videos available from the Data Literacy Training Initiative

Statistics Canada have released a new series of videos as part of their Data Literacy Training Initiative: "A new suite of training videos from the Data Literacy Training Initiative is now available.  Building on material already available in our learning catalogue, the new training addresses topics including data stewardship, stats 101, machine learning, and telling the data story."

Statistics Canada's 2021 Census soundtrack

Statistics Canada have released their 2021 Census soundtrack: "As Canada’s statistical portrait, the census is a reflection of who we are and what makes us Canadian. Listen to our Spotify and YouTube playlists while you complete your 2021 Census questionnaire to experience the different facets of Canadian culture through the sounds of our celebrated musical talent. If these songs aren’t already among your favourite tracks, we hope that you have the opportunity to discover something new as you fill out your questionnaire online in May."

Department of Finance Canada: Toward a Quality of Life Strategy for Canada

Department of Finance Canada have released a report titled Measuring What Matters: Toward a Quality of Life Strategy for Canada as part of their development of a Quality of Life Framework, and to "seek input into a new approach the government is developing to define and measure success and make better use of data and evidence to improve its decision-making".

Statistics Canada: 2021 Census Kick-Off Event on May 3

On May 3 at 1:00 pm EDT, Statistics Canada, in collaboration with Nunavut Arctic College (Iqaluit), will be virtually hosting the 2021 Census kick-off event. Register for the event here. Places are limited for the Zoom event, but the event will also be broadcast on Statistics Canada’s Facebook page for those who are not able to join.

National Equity Atlas: Racial Equity Data Lab launch on May 6

On May 6th, 2020 at 3:00pm ET, National Equity Atlas will be holding a webinar to coincide with the launch of their Racial Equity Data Lab, a new space on the Atlas with tools for telling equity stories, including maps, ready-to-use datasets and data visualizations. The webinar will offer more information on the Lab, how it can be used, and how National Equity Atlas are using it to support equity campaigns.
