TransUnion data is new to the Community Data Program. We're excited about the remarkably fine-grained data on consumer debt—data that most of us have never had access to at any scale.
That said, there is a protocol to follow when releasing publications that use the data and when speaking about results derived from TransUnion data to the media. After all, the data are proprietary, and we want to keep a good working relationship with TransUnion.
Protocol for publications that use TransUnion data
The author first needs to submit a draft publication to the CDP Team (information@communitydata.ca). From here:
- The CDP team sends the draft publication to TransUnion for review. When we receive authorization to publish, we immediately notify the author. Expect at minimum one week before receiving the green light to publish.
- The publication must include the following text: "Data used by permission from Trans Union of Canada, Inc. ©2013 TransUnion. All rights reserved."
- Media inquiries regarding the underlying TransUnion dataset itself should be forwarded to Clifton O'Neal, Senior Director, Corporate Communications, 312-985-2540, coneal@transunion.com.
That's it!
In the case of interviews, please respect items number 2 and 3 above: cite the source, and forward questions about the underlying dataset to Clifton.
We'll update this post if new information emerges.
