Product Profile 2.3: Working with the NHS (and Census) - Part 2

In Part 2 of this Product Profile, we explain some of the issues associated with the voluntary nature of the NHS, and how to address them. We also show what some consortia have begun to do about NHS data quality, especially with respect to mapping the global non-response rate. (More about global non-response rates in a moment.)

In addition, you may want to check out some other resources on the NHS:

Official position of CCSD on the National Household Survey (NHS)

CCSD has been working on an official position on the NHS over the past several weeks.

In addition, the CDP team will provide assistance on using it, as well as validating findings with the help of other datasets available to the program. We're also aiming to host at least one additional webinar in the spring of 2014 that helps members understand how to use income data from both the NHS and Taxfiler tables.

Using the NHS at the scale of cities and communities: slide deck and Q&A recording now available

The November 21 webinar "Using the NHS at the scale of cities and communities" was a great success, with 215 registrations, and 158 attendees.

In particular, it helped us understand some of the ways to assess the quality of the National Household Survey in addition to the global non-response rate, while driving home a commonly mentioned point: use the NHS to report on socioeconomic variables at the neighbourhood and municipal scale, but make sure to do so with caution.
