As part of their Data Literacy training Initiative, Statistics Canada has released a new self-learning educational tool called Statistics: Power from Data. This tool contains a series of written modules, intended for students, teachers, or the general population, aimed at helping equip them with the knowledge needed to understand and make use of data in today's society. For decades, Statistics Canada has collected and released statistics that provide a social and economic portrait of the country. In today’s context of rich statistical data, it is more important than ever for Canadians to understand and know how to use data. As part of the Data Literacy Training Initiative, Statistics Canada has committed to sharing its expertise by developing self-learning tools that are available on its website.

Today, we are announcing that a new training tool is now available: Statistics: Power from Data.

This tool is intended primarily for high school and college students, but also for teachers and anyone interested in learning the basics to get the most from statistics. It will help you

• appreciate the importance of statistical information in today’s society
• learn how to make critical use of the data presented to you.

We also invite you to take a look at the other training tools in our learning catalogue. There are a number of tools at different levels, most available in video format.
