Please join us for a virtual Workshop on data for Canadian cities to measure progress towards the SDGs hosted by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) with the support of the SDG Unit of the Federal Government of Canada.
Cities and local governments are at the forefront of Canada’s efforts to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Cities and local governments are the decision makers closest to the people working at the nexus between community wellbeing and the shared global goals enshrined in the SDGs. They also have the best insights on the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on people and the measures needed to embark on an inclusive pathway towards resilient and sustainable communities.
To do their work, local decisionmakers need good data to inform their choices and communicate priorities, needs and success stories to their constituents and other stakeholders. This workshop will bring together Canadian data experts from different sectors and city stakeholders to explore the possibility of a cross-sector data partnership to support inclusive SDG monitoring in Canada. Such a partnership would support local decision makers in implementing the SDGs and report their progress aligned with sub-national and national reporting.
The workshop will be an opportunity to understand the work of various groups and the challenges they face, and to identify opportunities to address these challenges through cross-sector collaboration.
