Physical activity of Canadian children and their parent
Statistics Canada just released a new research article entitled, “Associations between parent and child sedentary behaviour and physical activity in early childhood.” This article presents new national-level results from our Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS). The CHMS is uniquely positioned to provide analytical opportunities to researchers who are interested in examining relationships between a parent and child in terms of health behaviours and outcomes. These data can be used to answer the following questions:
- Why are so few children meeting the physical activity recommendation target?
- How much does a parent’s physical activity level influence that of their child?
- What other family dynamics can be explored using data on children and parents living in the same household?
