Ottawa, October 22, 2014 – The Canadian Council on Social Development’s President and CEO, Peggy Taillon, together with partner Professor Ann Dale, Trudeau Fellow Alumna (2004), School of Environment & Sustainability, Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at Royal Roads University, are pleased to announce the launch of a new series of online discussions to explore key questions surrounding Canada’s social sector.
“Revitalizing the Social Sector e-Dialogues are part of Changing the Conversation, a new, open-source forum for practitioners, non-government organizations, researchers, the private sector and communities to engage in civic dialogue around critical social issues,” said Professor Dale. “Using the latest web technologies, I am excited to see the learning exchanges that will take place and more – the repository of results, available to all, including best practices, tools and methodologies.”
“Professor Dale has led the way in creating a cutting edge, online, collaborative space that can host multidisciplinary expert panels together with a diverse audience – pan-Canadian and international,” said Peggy Taillon. “We are honoured partners in this opportunity to rethink the challenges surrounding the social sector, and contribute to a lasting record to help us move forward in our most important work: nation building.”
Non-profits are vital community partners that provide a wide range of essential services and programs touching virtually all aspects of our society: social justice, safety, human rights, environment, health, sports, faith, arts and culture. Taken together, non-profits and charities generate upwards of $176 billion in income, employ two million people and account for more than 8% of Canada’s GDP.
The Revitalizing the Social Sector e-Dialogue series will be made up of four online discussions during the fall and spring of 2014-15 to examine:
- The State of the Art: Where have we come from and where are we headed as a sector?
- Leadership: Where do our leaders come from today?
- Social Innovation: What do we need for scaling out and up?
- Non-Profits in the 21st Century: What do we need for revitalization?
The first event takes place October 29, 2014 and everyone is welcome to register and sign in as part of the audience.
